Our Tobacco, A Legacy of Authentic Taste, Perfected Through Tradition.
TOBACCO, WHICH IS THE COMMON NAME FOR FLOWERING PLANTS OF THE GENUS NICOTIANA, ORIGINAL TO THE AMERICAS.
Tobacco contains a substance called nicotine, which helps stimulate blood flow to the brain; that is the primary purpose of smoking tobacco, such as the hand-rolled cigarettes produced by our company.
Humans have smoked tobacco for centuries; Native Americans discovered through trial and error that tobacco had a stimulating effect on their bodies after inhaling the smoke. Tobacco is typically reserved for special occasions, such as religious rites and to mark important events. In Indonesia, many tribes use hand-rolled tobacco in traditional ceremonies, such as in Papua and Bali
The spread of tobacco to other continents started when European explorers discovered America, and initiated a process called Colombian exchange, named after Christopher Columbus, one of the first voyager during the age of exploration in the 15th century A.D. Soon, tobacco began to be planted all around the world, including Indonesia. This tropical archipelago boasts fertile soil and climate suitable for the propagation of tobacco plants.
It was not long after the colonization by the Dutch East India Companies (VOC) that the native population of Indonesia began cultivating & smoking tobacco. This tradition continues today, and Indonesia is one of the largest producer, manufacturer, and consumer of tobacco related products in the world, such as rolling tobacco, cigarette, and cigar. One peculiar usage of rolling tobacco among sailors in the coastal area of Indonesia is to get rid of leeches that often infest the boat during the fishing trip.
Dark Fire-Cured is a traditional method that has been practiced for centuries, especially in Kentucky (USA) and Italy. In this method, tobacco leaves are hung inside a barn. Special wood is slowly burned at the bottom, producing thick smoke that rises and cures the leaves. The process can last from 3 to 10 weeks, depending on the type of wood and weather conditions.
Unlike DFC, the Air-Cured method does not involve smoke or artificial heat. Instead, leaves are hung in barns with natural ventilation, allowing them to dry slowly through air circulation. This process typically lasts 4 to 8 weeks, depending on climate and humidity. Because no smoke or high heat is used, the resulting tobacco develops a more neutral, earthy taste with relatively high nicotine content.
Flue-Cured is the most widely used modern curing method, particularly for cigarette production. The process involves indirect heat: tobacco leaves are placed inside barns equipped with flues (pipes) that channel heat from external furnaces. The leaves are not exposed to direct fire or smoke. This curing method is much faster, taking only 5 to 7 days, with carefully controlled temperatures starting around 35°C and gradually rising to 77°C.
