Putera Djaja Widjaja began in Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia, also known as the City of Heroes. Here, Mr. Rudjito Widjojo founded a small shag tobacco factory in 1970. Over time, Putera Djaja Widjaja has grown, and our products are now distributed throughout Indonesia.
The name Putera Djaja Widjaja was inspired by Puncak Jaya Wijaya, Indonesia’s highest mountain, symbolizing the company’s aspiration to steadily rise and reach the highest point.
As domestic and international demand for tobacco grew, the production facility was relocated in 1991 to a new factory in Pandaan, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. This strategic location offered improved access to raw materials and distribution channels, fueling the company’s sustainable growth.
Commitment to delivering the finest quality tobacco has never come without challenges. In the early decades, the company faced many hurdles and encountered numerous obstacles, including the Indonesian financial crisis in 1998. Yet, through resiliance, dedication, and continuous innovation, Putera Djaja Widjaja endured and emerged as one of the leading shag tobacco producers in Indonesia.
Today, we continue to be recognized through our flagship brand “Tembakau 87”, trusted by consumers for its consistent quality and distinctive character. We also embrace the younger generation of smokers with “Rollnow”, offering fresh taste and innovative flavors.

We distribute our tobacco to various regions of Indonesia. In Sumatra, hand-rolled tobacco remains the primary choice for many tobacco users. In Sulawesi, the market is rapidly expanding, satisfying the diverse tastes and demands.
